WHO IS GRAIN OF RICE PROJECT?

Grain of Rice Project is a non-profit organization that believes in the power of education and training to empower Kenyans. Our work initially started in the Kibera Slum, but as our programs expanded, we needed more space. That's why we recently moved to a small village outside of Nanyuki, which comprises 8.5 acres of land. Our site houses our artisan program, volunteer housing, vegetable gardens, and most importantly, our Grain of Rice Academy.

Grain of Rice Academy is a primary school that provides hands-on, high-quality education within a Christian context to children in need. Our students come from different tribes and ages, and we focus on creating a unified learning environment. We prioritize literacy and follow a cross-curricular approach to learning, with the goal of creating leaders who can solve problems in their communities and expand our reach.

In addition to our school, we also support over a dozen artisans from both the village and Kibera. Our artisans create handcrafted products that help them earn a living wage and support their families.

While we know we can't change everything in Kenya, we believe that small actions can make a big difference in people's lives. We welcome you to be a part of this journey with us, as we work together to create a brighter, more equitable world for all.

HOW DO I CREATE A TEAM?

Head over to Brighter Futures 5K Registration to register and follow the instructions to create a new Brighter Futures Ambassador Team on the Brighter Futures Ambassador Section.

HOW DO I DONATE?

Even if you are unable to participate in our Brighter Futures 5K event, you can still make a significant impact. Your contribution, no matter how small, will help us provide quality, hands-on education to children in need in Kenya.

You can donate here

WHERE WILL MY MONEY GO?

In Kenya, access to quality education is often limited to those with the means to pay for it. We believe that every child deserves an opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of their economic status. That's why we founded Grain of Rice Academy, a place where all students receive an equal and excellent hands-on education.

By registering for our Brighter Futures 5K event, you can help us make this vision a reality. Your registration fee ($40 for adults and $20 for children) will go towards the cost of Ambassador Kits (keychain, sticker, and race bib) and postage to send them to team leaders and individuals. Additionally, the majority of your registration fee and any donations you make will directly support our Child Advocacy Program, providing life-changing educational opportunities for children in need at Grain of Rice Academy. Join us in making a difference, one child at a time.

CAN KIDS PARTICIPATE?

We are thrilled to see children inspired to make a positive impact in the lives of others. In fact, children of all ages are welcome to participate in the Brighter Futures 5K event on Saturday, May 13th. As a bonus, registration for children 18 years and under requires a minimum donation of $20, and includes an Ambassador Kit. P.S. If you are not able to cover a child's registration fee, we still encourage them to participate as this is a family fun event. Just please note that we just won't be able to provide an Ambassador Kit.

Join us in supporting our child advocacy program and providing life-changing educational opportunities for children in need in Kenya.

WHEN IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER?

You can register up to the day of the 5K on Saturday, May 13th, but in order to be guaranteed your Ambassador Kit, you must register by Sunday, April 23rd.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY AMBASSADOR KIT AND BIB FOR THE 5K?

Brookville Participants will be required to pick up Ambassador Kits a week before the 5K. Details to come.

Participants in our Virtual/Team Experience will have their Ambassador Kits mailed out to Team Leaders to distribute to local participants 1-2 weeks before the 5K. If you are on a team where your team leader is not local to you, your packet will be mailed directly to you.

YOU MUST REGISTER BY SUNDAY, APRIL 23 TO BE GUARANTEED AN AMBASSADOR KIT.

Each registration fee ($40 per adult/$20 per child includes 1 AMBASSADOR KIT

HOW CAN I MAP MY RUN/WALK?

If you are a team leader or participating in the 5K by yourself or with your household, you can use MAP MY RUN to plan your route ahead of time.

A 5K is 3.1 miles. You would probably want to map a run that's out and back, so the turn around point would be just over 1.5 miles. Make sure to stay hydrated by bringing water or seeing if your team will have water stations.
