Brookville Event:
Join us in Brookville, IN at Franklin County High School for the Brighter Futures 5K Brookville Event on Saturday, May 3, 2025, starting at 8 am. This is more than just a run; it’s a chance to be part of something bigger, to ignite change and inspire hope.
Bring your enthusiasm and your team spirit as we walk or run together, united in our mission to light the future for children in Kenya.
Thanks to a generous donor, shirts will be provided to all Brookville participants, symbolizing our collective commitment to making a difference.
Team/Virtual Experience:
Engage in our mission from anywhere in the world by joining a team or walk/run solo to illuminate the future for children in need in Kenya. Participating in this event allows you to get outside (or hop on the treadmill!) and make a tangible difference in the lives of children in Kenya through hands-on education. So lace up your shoes, hit the pavement on Saturday, May 3, 2025, and join us wherever you are!
This year we are fundraising to purchase a bus for our school.
Spread the word and light the way forward for children in Kenya! Your voice has the power to inspire others to join our cause. By sharing our mission with friends, family, and your community, you’re igniting a path of hope and opportunity for children in need.
Inspire others to join you as a Brighter Futures Ambassador, supporting Grain of Rice Academy and transforming the lives of children in need with life-changing education.
Show up, run, or walk, and feel the impact you’re making in the lives of students at Grain of Rice Academy. Thank your supporters and share your experience on social media to inspire others and spread awareness about GORA’s impact in Kenya!
With your support, we’ll build three new classrooms and implement solar solutions to keep us on the grid when the power goes out, ensuring uninterrupted learning opportunities. Share your team page or donate here.
Even if you are unable to participate in our Brighter Futures 5K event, you can still make a significant impact. Your contribution, no matter how small, will help us build three new classrooms and provide solar power solutions, ensuring quality, hands-on education for children in need in Kenya.
WHO IS GRAIN OF RICE PROJECT?
Grain of Rice Project is a non-profit organization that believes in the power of education and training to empower Kenyans. Our work initially started in the Kibera Slum, but as our programs expanded, we needed more space. That’s why we recently moved to a small village outside of Nanyuki, which comprises 8.5 acres of land. Our site houses our artisan program, volunteer housing, vegetable gardens, and most importantly, our Grain of Rice Academy.
Grain of Rice Academy is a primary school that provides hands-on, high-quality education within a Christian context to children in need. Our students come from different tribes and ages, and we focus on creating a unified learning environment. We prioritize literacy and follow a cross-curricular approach to learning, with the goal of creating leaders who can solve problems in their communities and expand our reach.
In addition to our school, we also support over a dozen artisans from both the village and Kibera. Our artisans create handcrafted products that help them earn a living wage and support their families.
While we know we can’t change everything in Kenya, we believe that small actions can make a big difference in people’s lives. We welcome you to be a part of this journey with us, as we work together to create a brighter, more equitable world for all.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY BIB AND T-SHIRT?
Bibs will be emailed to Team Captains to send to teammates. T-shirts are only for Brookville Participants this year (provided by a generous donor!) Brookville Participants will be required to pick up t-shirts at a date TBD.
HOW CAN I MAP MY RUN/WALK?
If you are a team leader or participating in the 5K by yourself or with your household, you can use MAP MY RUN to plan your route ahead of time.
A 5K is 3.1 miles. You would probably want to map a run that’s out and back, so the turn around point would be just over 1.5 miles. Make sure to stay hydrated by bringing water or seeing if your team will have water stations.
