About Grain of Rice Project
Our Mission:
Our school equips students to be future leaders by providing hands-on learning experiences focused on literacy and the arts within a Christian context.
Our Vision:
We strive to be a school that nurtures creative, critical thinkers and provides a high quality, cross-curricular education in an equitable environment for all students. No matter their background, we will support all students within a Christian context to establish them as future leaders and global citizens.
About Us:
Grain of Rice Project is a non-profit organization that empowers Kenyans through education and training initiatives in Jesus’ name. After humble beginnings in 2014 in Kibera Slum, our program eventually expanded, and we needed more space. Many villages have little access to resources, so in 2020, we moved to a small village outside of Nanyuki, 4.5 hours from Nairobi. Our new site is comprised of 8.5 acres, which house our artisan program, volunteer housing, vegetable gardens, and our Grain of Rice Academy.
The Academy is a primary school that provides high quality, hands-on learning within a Christian context to children in need. Our students represent a range of tribes and ages, as we focus on building a unified environment. The school has a heavy emphasis on literacy, and we follow a cross-curricular approach to learning. Our vision is to create leaders, who become problem-solvers in their own communities.
Additionally, we support over artisans from both the village and others who started with us in Kibera Slum. Artisans create handcrafted products that help them earn a living wage and support their families. Many of their children attend our school.
Although we cannot change all of Kenya, we strive to empower people in small ways, which add up and in turn spill over and make a difference in the lives of others around them. Join us in tipping the scale.
