Will your church join us on Sunday, August 28 in providing life changing educational opportunities for children in Kenya?

Empowered Sunday (Facebook Cover)

Inspired by various child sponsorship organizations, we are presenting a grand reversal, where our children are EMPOWERED to chose their Child Advocate. By giving each student the opportunity to identify and choose their Child Advocate, they are empowered to make a significant decision in their life and education. We believe God's Kingdom is all about a GRAND REVERSAL, where the meek are indeed, empowered!

WHO IS GRAIN OF RICE PROJECT?

Grain of Rice Project is a non-profit organization that empowers Kenyans through education and training initiatives in Jesus' name. Although we initially were based in Kibera Slum, our program was expanding, and we needed more space. Because many villages have little access to resources, we recently moved to a small village outside of Nanyuki, 4.5 hours from Nairobi. Our new site is comprised of 8.5 acres, which house our artisan program, volunteer housing, vegetable gardens, and our recently launched Grain of Rice Academy. Grain of Rice Academy is a primary school that provides high quality, hands-on learning within a Christian context to children in need. Our students represent a range of tribes and ages as we focus on building a unified environment. Our school has a heavy emphasis on literacy, and we follow a cross-curricular approach to learning. Our vision is to create leaders who become problem-solvers in their own communities, thus expanding our reach.

Additionally, we support over 20 artisans from both the village and others who started with us in Kibera Slum and have now moved to our new location. Artisans create handcrafted products that help them to earn a living wage and support their families.

Although we cannot change all of Kenya, we strive to do small things to empower people that will add up to make a big difference in their lives and will in turn spill over and make a difference in the lives of others around them. Join us in tipping the scale.

WHAT IS THE GOAL FOR EMPOWERED SUNDAY?

Our goal is identify 104 new people to commit to becoming Child Advocates and in doing so, empower our students in need with the opportunity to choose their own Child Advocate.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CHILD ADVOCATE?

An advocate is cheering on a child and advocating for his/her future success. Advocating for a child is a way to spread hope at Grain of Rice Academy.

Your commitment promotes stable relationships, develops trust and enables the child to flourish in their learning environment. Your monthly support provides uniforms, books, materials, high-quality education, breakfast, and lunch, (as well as dinner and housing for kids who board at Grain of Rice Academy) to a child who normally would struggle to attend school. Your support continues to reveal God’s love and hope to our students. We encourage advocates to commit to a one year minimum and if possible, continue with the student throughout their years at Grain of Rice Academy.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ADVOCATE FOR A CHILD?

There are 2 advocate options:

Cover half of a child's education and support as a Dual Advocate or fully sponsor a child as a Sole Advocate.

$38 / month for a dual advocate
$76 / month for a sole advocate
